Frequently asked questions
What is reiki?
Reiki (ray-key) translated from Japanese means ‘universal life force energy’ and is the name given to a spiritual system of natural healing that originated in Japan. Reiki uses non-invasive, gentle touch and can support the body’s innate healing abilities, balance energy levels and promote well-being.
How can Reiki help me?
Reiki helps your body shift out of fight/flight mode to the restorative and healing rest/digest mode. Reiki helps to rebalance your energy system on both physical and emotional levels. Benefits may include:
• Enhanced ability to relax
• Increased energy levels
• Improved quality of sleep
• Faster recovery from setbacks or illness
• Enhanced clarity of mind
• Reduced stress and anxiety
• Reduced pain
• Complements and supports other therapies
How does Reiki fit with western medicine?
Reiki is a complementary therapy that works alongside other medical and therapeutic techniques. Reiki does not replace conventional medicine. It uses non-invasive gentle touch and cannot harm you. Reiki will support and enhance the care you are receiving from your GP or other qualified medical/health practitioner. Continue with any treatments or medications already prescribed and consult with them regarding your care plan.
How many Reiki sessions do I need?
Some clients are content with and feel immediate benefit from a single Reiki session. Others choose additional treatments to suit their needs, for example if there are long-standing issues, a series of sessions can be beneficial. The decision is yours.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing – you only need to remove your shoes.
What happens during a Reiki treatment?
You lie fully clothed (or sit if preferred), covered with a light cloth or cosy throw. The protocol of Reiki hand positions is followed, with hands resting gently on or just above the body (breast and genital area are not touched). You may feel sensations near where the hands are positioned or in other parts of the body. These could be heat, tingling, coolness, ‘rumblings’ or other sensations. You may feel very little, you may feel a lot. Responses vary, yet are all energy related – ‘I feel so deeply peaceful and relaxed’ or ‘I’m so energised!’ or ‘I feel as if something has shifted’.
How long is an appointment?
Each session is 60 minutes (your first may go a few minutes over that). We’ll discuss your needs, spend 45 – 50 min “hands on”, concluding with connecting to inner wisdom and considering what’s next. You will be offered an ‘ideas for reflection’ handout and a notebook if you’d like to record your thoughts.
Where are you?
Sublime Reiki is located in Seaview Terrace, Thirroul.
What if I need to change my appointment?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellation/postponement to enable us to offer the time to another client. We are happy to reschedule appointments and appreciate your co-operation and respect. NB: in the current time of Covid-19 we understand that you may need to cancel and change your appointment at short notice due to sudden onset of cold/flu symptoms – this is totally the right course of action!
Can I learn Reiki and where are courses held?
Yes, anyone can learn the spiritual healing system of Reiki. The first course, Reiki I, focuses primarily on the self, and you can share Reiki with family/friends. You learn how to bring Reiki practices into your everyday life – for your physical, emotional and spiritual well being. Reiki II qualifies you to work as a certified Reiki Practitioner.
