our path to reiki
Before establishing Sublime Reiki, Nancie worked in the fields of education, community welfare and health education for just over forty years, giving her a wealth of experience. She has always been passionate about providing opportunities for her students and clients that enable them to direct their own learning. This empowerment facilitates their personal growth, learning abilities and achievement of goals.
This same passion fuels her commitment to Sublime Reiki. She will work with you on your reiki healing journey – guiding and encouraging your self-discovery, as you make further choices that contribute to your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.
My first encounter with Reiki was back in 1998, when a friend asked if I’d join her at a Reiki course in Wollongong. I didn’t know anything about Reiki but was drawn to join her because of my interest in spirituality and awareness of our energy fields.
Reiki I’s focus on healing for yourself was just what I needed! I practised Reiki self-healing for the following year, with additional benefits from meditation and self-development retreats.
Unfortunately I let my practice of Reiki self-healing lapse as the roles of single parent and working full time (adult literacy education, community welfare, health promotion) consumed my energies. Now I realise that making time for self is an absolute must because you cope better all round.
I still sought occasional Reiki treatments to get me through times of feeling overwhelmed and out of balance, but overall I wasn’t taking such good care of myself.
In 2008 I was diagnosed with an auto-immune condition – Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) – triggered by a compromised adrenal system. Years of stress had taken their toll on my physical health. My first marriage had been scarred by domestic violence, and my single parenthood was impacted by ongoing conflicts. My self-esteem was pretty low – I put on a good front but had a lot of self-doubt. Further emotional upheaval was added when my parents and youngest brother died within a two year period.
Hence my overloaded adrenal system. I was treated with medication and a short course of physiotherapy, yet my recovery was very slow. A friend recommended her remedial massage therapist to me and after my first session with Graeme in 2010 I was a convert. He not only helped me recover from the residual muscular effects of the PMR, he also offered Reiki which had an unexpected outcome – the emotional release of the bottled up grief for my losses – first marriage, my parents and my brother. Remedial massage and Reiki therapy worked together and I recovered completely, no longer in need of anti-inflammatory medications.
Thanks to Graeme for ‘bringing me back home to Reiki’. I really love that Reiki is a spiritual practice, and I get so much from my daily meditation, living according to the Reiki precepts and my daily self-healing practice.
In 2015 when I was planning to retire from teaching, I completed Reiki I for the second time, to start afresh and because of my passion for working with others, I completed Reiki II to become a Reiki Practitioner.
Sublime Reiki was established in 2016, providing Reiki to my clients in the northern suburbs of Wollongong. Teaching is ‘in my blood’, so little wonder that I went on to become a Reiki Master Teacher under the mentor-ship of Louise Ryder – ‘Shine On Creative Energy’, Stanwell Park.
I love being a part of the community of Thirroul, having moved here in 2007 after I met Greg and we then married in 2008. I’m blessed with a full and happy life with my family, friends, Reiki, poetry writing, choir, meditation, yoga and swimming giving me plenty of love, joy and contentment.
